Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has referred to the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5 as a “tale of people’s awakening.”

In a video address to the nation marking the anniversary of the July Uprising, Yunus emphasized the historical importance of the day.

“Today, the entire nation reflects on a day that has left a deep imprint on our history,” the Chief Adviser said.

“August 5 is not just a day; it is a promise, a tale of awakening, the day of our nation’s rebirth from the grip of fascist rule,” he said.

His remarks came as the country marked the first anniversary of the momentous event that saw the end of Hasina’s 15-year rule, which was toppled by a student-led mass uprising. Yunus underlined the significance of this day in the nation’s fight for democracy and freedom from autocratic governance.

This speech underscores the government’s commitment to the principles of justice and democratic reform, reflecting on the significant strides made by the interim administration in delivering justice for the victims of the July 2024 massacre and pushing forward essential governance reforms.
