Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), the national university of Malaysia, today conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to social entrepreneurship.

The honorary degree was presented by the university’s Chancellor during a formal ceremony held at the UKM auditorium in Kuala Lumpur, reports BSS.

University authorities said, the prestigious accolade was awarded to Prof Yunus for his exceptional efforts in promoting social business models that have had a transformative impact on poverty alleviation worldwide.

Following the conferment, Prof Yunus delivered a commemorative lecture to students, sharing insights into his journey, philosophy, and the future of social innovation. His remarks were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Upon his arrival at the university this morning, Prof Yunus was warmly received by the Chancellor and senior officials of UKM.

The event was attended by prominent Malaysian academics, policymakers, university faculty members, students, and members of Prof Yunus’s delegation.
