A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death early Friday during an altercation over sleeping arrangements under a flyover in Gazipur’s Sreepur. Police swiftly arrested two suspects and recovered the murder weapon from the scene.
The deceased, identified as Jewel, originally hailed from Haluaghat in Mymensingh. The incident occurred around 3 am near the Maona intersection.
According to Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik, the suspects—Rakib, 25, and Robin, 27—were detained at the scene. A knife used in the killing was also seized.
OC Barik said that a group of youths had been sleeping near tea stall under the Maona flyover when an argument erupted over sleeping space. The altercation turned violent, leading to a scuffle. During the clash, Rakib allegedly stabbed Jewel in the chest with a knife. Robin also sustained injuries from the same weapon.
Jewel was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police suspect that both the victim and the arrestees were homeless individuals involved in criminal activities in the Maona Chowrasta area. Further investigations are underway.
