A young man was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant in the Bank Colony area of Savar on Monday night.

The deceased, a 26-year-old man named Shahin, was a resident of Boliarpur, and lived in a rented house in Radio Colony. He worked as a painter at a local garage owned by a man named Barun.

The incident occurred around 9:30pm near the Aricha-bound lane of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.

Eye witnesses said Shahin was walking along a side street near the highway with another man in a white shirt. Without warning, the man shot Shahin in the head and fled. Shahin collapsed on the spot and died instantly.

Following the incident, police recovered the body and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify the suspect.

Barun, the garage owner and Shahin’s employer, reportedly suffered a heart attack after hearing this news and has been hospitalised.

Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jewel Mia said, “Police have been dispatched to the scene. Details will be available after the initial investigation. Efforts are underway to identify the killer.”
