A young man was found dead after being abducted by armed assailants in Kalarmarchhara union of Maheshkhali upazila, Cox’s Bazar.
The deceased was identified as Tofail Ahmed, 35, son of late Siddique Matabbar. He was taken away by miscreants on Saturday night. His body was recovered the following morning from a bamboo thicket near Kaulyar Bridge, south of Kalarmarchhara Bazar.
Maheshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjurul Haque confirmed the incident. The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
We are continuing raids to trace those involved. Details will be disclosed later, the OC said.
According to the locals, Tofail had been engaged in shrimp farming this season at Atdona Ghona, west of Kalarmarchhara Bazar. On Saturday evening, a group of armed men attacked the enclosure abducted Tofail and fled the scene.
Hours later, villagers discovered his body lying in a bamboo bush with gunshot wounds to both legs. Family members alleged that the men behind the crime were associates of Tareq Osman Sharif of Kalarmarchhara, claiming they had picked up Tofail on the day of the incident.
Investigations are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
