Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana has said that the nation stands on the blood of the martyrs of the July mass uprising and emphasised that their sacrifice must be honoured by working with honesty, efficiency, and neutrality.

She made the remarks on Monday at a discussion and prayer session held at the Information Building in the capital. The event was organised by the Department of Mass Communication to mark the anniversary of the July uprising.

Remembering the martyrs with respect, the secretary said that last year, young people sacrificed their lives to create the possibility of building a new nation with the support of the people. To realise that possibility, everyone must work sincerely and overcome all challenges through action.

She noted that building the nation is a massive undertaking and urged everyone to fully engage in this task. Addressing officials of the ministry, she identified the spread of rumours and misinformation as a major challenge and called on them to tackle it with competence.

Justice AKM Abdul Hakim, chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council, also spoke at the event, which was presided over by Director General of the Department of Mass Communication Faizul Haque.

At the beginning of the programme, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of those killed in the recent aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara. The event concluded with prayers seeking forgiveness for the July martyrs and recovery for the injured.

The session was conducted by Deputy Directors of the Department of Mass Communication, Kazi Shamminaz Alam and Gazi Sharifa Yasmin. Officials and staff of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, along with journalists and representatives of affiliated agencies, were present.
