A shocking case of collective sexual violence has emerged from Bheramara, Kushtia, where a group of men allegedly subdued a husband before gang-raping his wife. Police responded swiftly to the Saturday night incident, detaining five suspects for initial interrogation within hours of the crime.
The assault occurred around 11pm near Moslempur village along the Kushtia-Ishwardi national highway. Bheramara police conducted immediate raids, apprehending local residents Kalu Pramanik (46), Murshid Sheikh (45), Titu Mondal alias Tipu (42), Ejazul (42), and van driver Rubel Ali (24).
During preliminary questioning, three suspects reportedly admitted involvement in the attack.
Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman revealed disturbing details of the victim’s ordeal. The 26-year-old hotel employee and her husband were returning home from work in their van when intercepted near a deserted field in Moslempur.
After violently restraining the husband, the assailants turned on his wife. Authorities mobilised after receiving an emergency call to the national 999 helpline.
While legal proceedings have been initiated against the detainees, the case has taken a controversial turn due to administrative delays. Despite being brought to the police station immediately after the incident, the survivor wasn’t transferred to a medical facility until 9am Sunday – a twelve-hour delay that has ignited local outrage over the handling of her case.
Medical examination results are currently pending as investigators continue processing forensic evidence.
