The upcoming meeting between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will be of critical importance for Bangladesh and its political future, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.

In a video message on Thursda), he shared this opinion while discussing preparations for the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Dorchester Hotel in London, where Chief Adviser Yunus is staying during.

As part of the preparations, a representative from the BNP visited them on Thursday, Shafiqul Alam mentioned in his message. “We are expecting them to arrive by around 9 am tomorrow (London time). A one-to-one meeting will take place. If they feel that anyone else should join, that decision will be made by the two leaders themselves,” he said.

Emphasising the significance of the meeting, Shafiqul Alam said: This is a very important meeting for Bangladesh and for the country’s upcoming political reality. With April proposed as the possible timeline for the next election, this meeting carries considerable weight. We’re not concerned with any formal agenda, but the fact that the meeting is happening– between the head of the current interim government and the head of the largest political party in Bangladesh– means they will discuss everything that needs to be discussed.

There has been considerable political tension in Bangladesh for months over the timing of the next general election. In a speech to the nation on the eve of Eid, the Chief Adviser stated that the election would be held in the first half of April. However, BNP leaders have continued to insist on their demand for a December election.

Amidst this backdrop, the anticipated London meeting between Chief Adviser Yunus and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stirred significant curiosity within Bangladesh’s political circles.
