Story:1

A jolly good fellow he was in Dhaka University in the 60 and 70s. He was an extrovert; boisterous and a jester in parties, obviously, he never had any shortage of friends. Among the things he loved most were his cigarettes. He was a chain smoker from college days and passionately smoked away his money with least concern. He always carried a packet of 555 or Benson & Hedges in his pocket. And little did he know that one day one of such packets would save his life from sure death.

It was on a gloomy day in 1984 he was on a business trip to Chittagong. After finishing his work he bought a ticket on a Fokker Friendship plane bound for Dhaka. It was the last afternoon flight and my friend had to reach Dhaka as he had important work the next day. He reached Chittagong airport in time and checked with the clock there. A few minutes left for the plane to take off. He put his hand inside his trousers pocket. He was horror-struck. His packet of cigarettes was not there! But he must have one or two sticks during the flight! He looked up at the clock once again and ran out of the airport to buy a pack of cigarettes. He ran to a shop located at a crossroads and bought a pack of 555. As he ran back to the airport with a stick between his lips he saw the plane taking off without him. The exhaustion from running and then seeing the plane leaving without him, there was nothing better for him to do than cursing everything around him.  Fuming mad he went back to his hotel. After about an hour, he heard over the radio that the flight he was supposed to take that afternoon had crashed on a marshy land near Savar and there was no chance of finding anyone alive. He froze and then turned and looked at the cigarette packet on the bed side table. He came back to Dhaka the next day and the first thing he did was put the packet inside a glass container and placed it in a showcase. He never touched that packet ever again.

Story:2

The dreamliner flight crashed a few days back in India. Over 250 passengers died a horrible death inside. A lone survivor walked out of the burning plane to safety. But, what about that girl who missed the flight for only ten minutes?  She was so disappointed when she saw the plane taking off without her. Then when she was about to turn back to go home she heard the big sound and saw the ball of flame in the distance. When she heard that no one survived in the accident, she went numb.

Did Providence intervene in these two cases? Who knows!
