What’s in NCP’s 24-point manifesto for a ‘New Bangladesh’?

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has unveiled a 24-point manifesto for rebuilding Bangladesh, announced by party convener Nahid Islam during Sunday’s rally at Central Shaheed Minar.

The manifesto’s key points include:

  1. New constitution and Second Republic

  2. Recognition and justice for July uprising victims

  3. Democratic and institutional reforms

  4. Justice system overhaul and legal reforms

  5. Service-oriented administration and anti-corruption measures

  6. People-friendly law enforcement

  7. Village parliaments and participatory governance

  8. Independent media and strong civil society

  9. Universal healthcare

  10. Nation-building education policy

  11. Research, innovation and digital revolution

  12. Protection of religious and ethnic minority rights

  13. Women’s safety, rights and empowerment

  14. Human-centered welfare economy

  15. Youth development and employment

  16. Diversified trade and industrialization

  17. Sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty

  18. Labor and farmer rights

  19. National resource management

  20. Urban development and housing

  21. Climate resilience and water conservation

  22. Diaspora rights and dignity

  23. Visionary foreign policy

  24. National defense strategy

The National Citizens’ Party’s manifesto includes key commitments to recognize last year’s July uprising and ensure justice for victims while proposing sweeping reforms to rebuild Bangladesh’s democratic framework and state institutions.

The 24-point charter outlines plans for:

  • Comprehensive legal reforms to establish a justice-oriented judiciary

  • People-friendly law enforcement agencies

  • Introduction of village parliaments and stronger local governance

  • Protection of press freedom and civil society space

  • Universal healthcare coverage

  • National development-focused education system

The document emphasises technological advancement through research promotion and digital transformation while committing to protect religious and ethnic minority rights. It specifically addresses women’s safety, rights and empowerment as priority areas.

On economic matters, the manifesto proposes a human-centered welfare economy, youth employment generation, diversified trade and industrialisation policies, and food sovereignty and agricultural worker rights.

The party’s vision extends to sustainable national resource management, planned urban development with modern transport systems, climate change adaptation measures, and protection of water resources.

The foreign policy agenda focuses on protecting expatriate Bangladeshis’ rights while pursuing a Bangladesh-first approach in international relations, coupled with a comprehensive national defense strategy.

The rally commenced at 5pm with notably low attendance despite activists gathering since afternoon. Senior leaders present included Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Spokesperson Samanta Sharmin, Chief Organisers Nasir Uddin Patwari (Central), Hasnat Abdullah (Southern region), Sarjis Alam (Northern region), Senior Joint Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud, and Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Taslim Zaras.
