Under the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) regulations and the Arms Act, passengers are prohibited from carrying any firearms or ammunition in their cabin luggage.

Licensed gun owners, however, may transport their firearms through a controlled process. They must declare the weapon both at the airport entry gate and at the airline’s check-in counter, present a valid firearms licence, and ensure the weapon is unloaded and secured in a hard-sided, locked case.

The firearm must be checked in as cargo and cannot travel in the passenger cabin under any circumstances.

In addition, ammunition and magazines are not permitted in carry-on baggage. Ammunition must be stored separately in a locked container and checked in as hold baggage. Magazines, whether loaded or not, are expressly barred from cabin carriage.

Airport security officials warn that failure to declare weapons or attempting to carry them in violation of these procedures may lead to legal action, including confiscation and prosecution.

“These measures are designed to protect passengers and maintain airport safety. Licensed firearm holders should strictly follow the declaration and packaging rules to avoid delays or legal consequences,” said a senior airport security officer.

The Civil Aviation Authority has also reminded passengers that arms imports and exports require explicit permission and licensing under the Arms Act of 1878. Travellers should consult their airline and airport authorities well in advance of travel to ensure compliance.
