BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that “mobocracy” now reigns in the country. Addressing a rally in Nayapaltan on Thursday, he stated: “We organised the student-public mass uprising for democracy. But the opposite is happening now.”

Questioning the government, he asked: “We wanted democracy, but mobocracy is emerging instead. Why is this happening?”

Highlighting the government’s failure to maintain law and order, Salahuddin remarked: “Since the interim government was formed, we’ve always wished for their success and extended our cooperation. But today, the spirit of the mass uprising is being challenged.”

He further accused authorities of deliberately creating issues to tarnish BNP’s image.

Referring to BNP’s expectation that the chief adviser would direct the Election Commission to prepare for February elections following his London meeting with Tarique Rahman, the BNP leader noted: “We observed you (chief adviser) meeting law enforcement agencies, but you haven’t officially instructed the Election Commission to prepare for early February polls.”

The BNP leader expressed hope that the chief adviser would soon direct the Election Commission to begin election preparations.
