The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) has launched an investigation to find whether any other police officers were involved alongside arrested constable Ami Das for allegedly leaking a confidential message from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) commissioner.
Ami Das was arrested and placed on three-day remand for interrogation about the message leak from a walkie-talkie.
The case, which was filed against Ami Das on charges of leaking the message, has already been handed over to the specialised police unit for investigation.
Later, Ami Das has also been transferred to CTTC custody for interrogation.
Following a request from police, a Chattogram court granted three-day remand for Ami Das on Tuesday. He was then officially handed over to the CTTC.
Chattogram CTTC Deputy Commissioner Md Golam Ruhul Quddus said, “The case has been assigned to us for investigation. We’ll thoroughly look into who else may be involved in this network.”
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khulshi Police Station, confirmed that all relevant documents have officially been sent to the CTTC.
According to the case statement, “With strategic planning and ill motive, Ami Das recorded a video and, with the help of unidentified associates, leaked, trafficked, and published it.
Additionally, using digital devices and the assistance of unknown individuals, he also disseminated, publicised, and shared the video on social media, so thereby undermining public security and spreading fear among citizens.”
During preliminary interrogation, there was initial evidence of Ami Das’ involvement in the incident.
On the night of August 11, a police officer was injured in an attack by members of the ruling Awami League wielding sharp weapons.
On August 12, CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz delivered a special message via walkie-talkie to all CMP members. A video of that message was later leaked and circulated on social media.
The leak of this message caused considerable embarrassment among top police officials in Chattogram city.
