The interim government has approved the draft of the Voters’ List (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, introducing provisions allowing eligible citizens to register as voters until a reasonable time before the election schedule is announced.
The Advisory Council has approved the draft of three ordinances at a meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his office on Thursday.
According to the existing law, young people who became eligible as voters after January 2 were not getting the opportunity to cast their votes in the following months, even until March of next year, even if the elections were held.
Briefing journalists at the Foreign Service Academy, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, “The draft of the Voters’ List (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 has been given final approval in the meeting.”
He said, “The Advisory Council has approved two more draft ordinances, which will now be scrutinised for legal aspects.”
The other two ordinances that received draft approval are the ‘Human Organ Transplantation Ordinance, 2025’ and the ‘Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025’.
The draft of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Amendment Ordinance-2025 was given final approval in the Advisory Council meeting, subject to the vetting of the Law Ministry.
