A video of Idris Miah, convener of BNP’s Chattogram South District unit and former chairman of Patiya Upazila Parishad, has gone viral on social media, igniting widespread criticism and debate over his remarks about local administrative officials.
In the video, Idris Miah is seen addressing a party event with a banner in the background reading “Eid Reunion” organised by the BNP’s Satkania organisational unit.
During his speech, he is heard saying, “If the administration does not listen to BNP, then the UNOs and OCs should leave their posts. We have given them many chances–no more. It’s time to make our demands heard and achieved.”
“If we unite, the administration will be forced to listen. Either they comply or vacate their positions. No more opportunities can be given,” he added.
The video is reported to have been recorded last Tuesday at a community hall in Satkania, where all local BNP organisational units jointly held the Eid reunion. Idris Miah attended as the chief guest.
When contacted, Idris Miah denied making any such statements targeting UNOs or police officers.
“This video has been edited with the intent to defame me,” he claimed.
Earlier, on February 2, BNP announced a partial convening committee for Chattogram South District, appointing Idris Miah as convener. A full 54-member committee was later declared on May 6. Idris Miah had previously served as a vice-president of the district BNP unit.
