I don’t understand why prices suddenly shot up when they were lower just recently. Still, I had no choice but to buy small quantities—1 kg or half kg each.”

Alamgir Hossain, a vegetable seller at Rampura Market, explained, “We are buying vegetables at higher prices from the wholesale market, where supply has dropped. That’s why retail prices are up. At the same time, our sales volume has decreased. Customers who used to buy 1 kg are now taking half. We used to stock 10–20 kg of each item, but now we’re bringing in just 5–7 kg. Prices should fall once the new seasonal vegetables start arriving.”
