The government has declared a one-day state mourning to be observed on Tuesday following the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft into the compound of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara on Monday.

The declaration was announced via an official statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

As such, to mark the mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government, semi-government, autonomous, and educational institutions across the country, as well as on all government and private buildings and Bangladeshi missions abroad.

Special prayers will also be held at religious institutions nationwide for those who were injured or lost their lives in the crash, according to the statement.

Several people injured in the incident have been admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Earlier in the day, a BAF F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College campus, leaving an unspecified number of people dead and many others injured. A fire broke out after the crash, and rescue operations were carried out by several units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The government has announced that an investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the crash and has promised to extend all necessary support to the victims and their families.
