Karima Gore is set to make a return to international cricket as part of the West Indies squad for a T20I series against Nepal in the UAE. The USA-born player last played in international cricket for the country in 2021, and is eligible to play for the West Indies through his parents’ heritage.
The West Indies have named a young squad for the historic series, giving most senior players a break. Shai Hope will be in India preparing for a Test series, while only a few experienced players, including Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, and Fabian Allen, join the squad.
Gore is one of five potential debutants for the West Indies. He will have the chance to gain valuable experience in different conditions and showcase his skills on the international stage.
Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein will lead the side as captain. He becomes the 17th player to captain the two-time World T20 champions. Other newcomers joining Gore include Ackeem Auguste, Navin Bidaisse, Zishan Motara, and Ramon Simmonds.
Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, said the tour is important for giving young players like Gore exposure. He added that the series helps develop a squad that is adaptable and ready for international challenges, while also growing the game and inspiring new fans.
The three-match series starts on September 27, with the next games on September 29 and 30. All matches will take place in Sharjah.
