Shariful M Khan, a US Air Force officer born in Bangladesh, has been promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
Shariful was among a group of military officials nominated for promotion by President Donald Trump in June, according to a statement published on the US Department of Defense’s official website.
The June 13 announcement listed 15 officers nominated for the rank of major general and 55 for brigadier general, with Shariful’s name among the latter. His promotion was formally recognised in a ceremony held on August 20. The event was noted in a social media post by M Osman Siddique, former US Ambassador and the first Muslim to serve in that role for the country.
According to the official website of the US Air Force, Brigadier General Shariful M Khan currently serves as the Staff Director for Golden Dome for America, a critical multi-layered missile defense initiative. In this role, General Shariful oversees the strategy, policy, planning, force posture, and interagency coordination for all efforts under the Golden Dome programme.
General Shariful was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1997 after graduating from the US Air Force Academy. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has gained extensive experience as a satellite operator, working across space control, space systems, and launch operations.
