US ambassador met Tarique in London last month: BNP Foreign Affairs Adviser

Acting US ambassador to Dhaka Tracey Ann Jacobson met with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in London in July, revealed Tarique’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir on Wednesday.

The information was confirmed to a private television channel by the US Embassy.

Despite multiple attempts to contact Humayun Kabir, he could not be reached by phone. However, MA Malek, president of UK BNP, confirmed the meeting.

It has been learned that, during this private meeting, discussions centred on BNP’s plans for the upcoming elections and government formation. They discussed fundamental issues such as the kind of country BNP aims to build if it wins the next election and the party’s vision for the electoral framework.

Earlier, on June 13, a meeting between Tarique and the interim government’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus took place in London. They held the meeting at the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane.

At the time, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that it was a private meeting. After the meeting, representatives from both sides held a joint press conference.

Following the London meeting, it was announced at the joint press conference that the national parliamentary elections would be held in February 2026.

On Tuesday, during a speech to the nation on the occasion of “July Mass Uprising Day,” the chief adviser confirmed the matter, declaring that the elections would take place before Ramadan in February 2026.
