TOB Report
Students at several universities across Bangladesh began observing a strike and human chains on Monday as part of a global call to protest against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The demonstration, which started in the morning, involves at least eight universities and includes boycotts of classes and suspension of official activities.
At BRAC University, students gathered in front of the main gate, holding Palestinian flags and placards, voicing their solidarity with the people of Gaza. Similar scenes unfolded across other campuses, as students formed human chains and joined the global movement.
Participating institutions include the University of Dhaka (DU), University of Chattogram (CU), Jahangirnagar University (JU), BRAC University (BRACU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), and Daffodil International University (DIU).
As part of the nationwide campaign, a major solidarity rally under the banner “March for Palestine” is scheduled to take place at 4pm in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University’s TSC area.
The strike aligns with a global shutdown campaign called for April 7, urging closure of educational institutions, offices, and government agencies worldwide to raise awareness of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
A digital poster in English with the slogan “No Work, No School Until Genocide Stops” has been widely circulated on social media, amplifying the call for action and solidarity with the people of Palestine. Reports from other countries also indicate widespread demonstrations and public rallies in support of Gaza.
