The Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives has issued a gazette notification amending the rules governing the Union Parishad Gram Police Force, officially changing the designation of “Dafadar” to “Gram Police Head” and “Mohalladar” to “Gram Police”.

Signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Atiqul Islam by order of the president, the notification was issued on Sunday, 1 November 2026.

The government enacted this further amendment to the “Local Government (Union Parishad) Formation, Training, Discipline and Conditions of Service of Gram Police Force Rules, 2015” in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 96 and Section 48 of the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act, 2009 (Act No. 61 of 2009).

Under the new amendment, the word “Dafadar” mentioned throughout the aforementioned rules will be replaced with “Gram Police Head”, whilst the word “Mohalladar” will be replaced with “Gram Police”.

The notification explicitly noted that the order takes effect immediately.
