Country’s most notorious underworld criminal, Subrata Bain along with his top associate Molla Masud, were reportedly arrested Tuesday morning from a house behind Kushtia District Jail.
According to local sources, a team of army personnel surrounded the house early in the morning and captured the two fugitives after a three-hour operation.
The operation to nab Subrata Bain, a feared gang leader and head of the so-called “Seven Star” gang, took place in the Kalishankarpur area of Kushtia town.
They were being transported to Dhaka for further interrogation.
Subrata Bain, whose full name is Trimati Subrata Bain, according to police records, was a dominant figure in Dhaka’s underworld for years. He was previously imprisoned in India for criminal activities and had returned to Bangladesh under the radar.
Originally from Jobarpara village under Agoiljhara police station in Barishal, Subrata Bain is the eldest son of Bipul Bain, who used to work as a driver for an NGO.
His mother, Kumolini, and his three sisters — Mary, Cherry, and Pori — used to live in a rented house in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area.
