Unauthorised fuel seized in N’ganj, traders fined

A mobile court in a drive seized a large quantity of unauthorised fuel and fined the traders, who store and sell petroleum products illegally, in Godnail Baripara area of Narayanganj Sadar on Tuesday.

A special team of seven executive magistrates from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and the Narayanganj district administration carried out the drive under the Bangladesh Petroleum Act, 2016.

Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources informed this through a press release.

During the mobile court drive, several irregularities were uncovered at local fuel sale centers, including storing and selling petroleum products without proper licenses or valid purchase receipts, unsafe storage practices, which posed significant risks to public safety.

In addition, five cases have been filed against individuals violating the rules, with financial penalties imposed on them as a result.

The authorities seized 1,080 litres of diesel, 106 litres of octane, and 650 litres of furnace oil, along with a fake invoice used in fuel sales.

The release stated that all confiscated fuel has been placed under the custody of Meghna Oil PLC and Padma Oil PLC.

Officials have instructed the traders to comply with the provisions of 2016 Act and issued a stern warning that any future violations will lead to tougher legal consequences.

The ministry stated that mobile court drives will continue in the coming days to ensure compliance with the regulations and to safeguard public safety.
