UN praises Bangladesh Army’s role in civil aid

United Nations Under Secretary General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix has lauded the Bangladesh Army for its professionalism, particularly acknowledging the commendable role of its personnel currently engaged in aid to civil power operations within the country.

Lacroix made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, at Army Headquarters in Dhaka on Monday.

The visit underscored the UN’s appreciation for Bangladesh’s longstanding contribution to global peacekeeping efforts.

During the discussion, the UN official praised the Bangladesh Armed Forces’ competence and discipline in United Nations peacekeeping missions worldwide.

He highlighted Bangladesh’s consistent commitment to global peace and stability and discussed ways to enhance deployment strategies, training protocols, and overall capacity building for future missions.

In response, General Waker-Uz-Zaman reaffirmed the Bangladesh Army’s dedication to supporting current and future UN peace operations.

He assured Lacroix of continued cooperation and emphasised the Army’s readiness to further align with UN standards in all aspects of peacekeeping and humanitarian support.

The meeting reflects the deepening partnership between Bangladesh and the United Nations in promoting international peace, while also recognising the Army’s crucial domestic role in ensuring law, order, and civic support during transitional periods, said Bangladesh Army.
