Ukrainian security services have revealed details of assassination attempts on Volodymyr Zelensky in the past year, according to various Ukrainian news websites, on Tuesday.

One of the assassination attempts on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was thwarted at the Rzeszów airport, said Vasyl Maliuk, head of Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). A Polish national, previously a military pensioner, was arrested in association with the assassination attempt.

He was allegedly hired by Russia as he deeply believed in the “soviet ideology.”

“The task was to eliminate President Zelenskyy at Rzeszów Airport physically. Several options were considered — one involving an FPV drone, another a sniper system,” Malyuk said.

Last May, the news of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) having detained colonels of the State Guard Department who were plotting to assassinate President Zelenskyy was made public. The perpetrators were working for the FSB’s 5th Service.

“In addition to planning an assassination attempt on the president, they were gathering and transmitting information,” Malyuk added.
