Nineteen days after the Milestone School tragedy, a teacher and a student injured in the incident have been discharged from hospital.
They are science teacher Sumaiya Rahman Lorin and fifth grader Nuri Jannat Esha, 11.
National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery said the two were released on Sunday morning after showing significant recovery from burn injuries sustained in the accident. Esha, who suffered burns on 10 per cent of her body including parts of her face and both hands, expressed her joy at being able to return home.
Lorin, who had about 18 per cent burns on her face and both hands, has returned to her home in Dakshinkhan, Uttara.
National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Director Dr Md Nasir Uddin said 24 people injured in the Milestone tragedy are still undergoing treatment at the facility. So far, 14 patients have been discharged after recovery, while one remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit. He said his medical team is working tirelessly to ensure that all admitted patients can return home in good health.
On 21 July, a Bangladesh Air Force(BAF) F-7 fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College campus at Diabari in Uttara. The health ministry said 34 people, including the BAF pilot, have so far died in the incident.
