Two killed, 30 injured in clash over meat distribution

Two people were killed and at least 30 others, including women, were injured in a clash between two groups over the distribution of meat in Mollahat, Bagerhat.

According to news agency UNB, the incident occurred on Saturday evening in Singati village of Chunakhola Union under Mollahat upazila.

The deceased were identified as Azizul Chowdhury (40) and Mursalin Chowdhury (30), both residents of Singati village.

Police reported that Azizul Chowdhury was pronounced dead by doctors after being taken to Gopalganj Hospital at around 8pm in critical condition. Mursalin Chowdhury succumbed to his injuries at 10pm while undergoing treatment. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Mollahat, Khulna, and Gopalganj.

Local sources said the dispute began in the afternoon over Eid-ul-Adha meat distribution, escalating into a violent clash in the evening when both sides attacked each other with crude weapons. During the clash, 32 people, including women from both sides, were injured. Two members of the Ershad group were among the fatalities.

Mollahat Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the casualties, stating that police have been deployed to control the situation. No formal complaint has been filed yet, but police are working to apprehend those involved.
