Two garment workers died after being run over by a bus in the Bayezid area of Chattogram on Sunday. The accident occurred at around 8:30am in Baluchara area, right in front of Visual Garments, under the jurisdiction of Bayezid Bostami Police Station.
The deceased have been identified as Arun Das, 59, from Baluchara Jalalabad area under Bayezid Police Station, and Azizul Haq Gypsy, 22.
Police confirmed that Arun was an employee at Visual Garments, while Azizul worked as a transport worker for the garment factory’s vehicles.
According to local and police sources, Arun and Azizul were walking to their workplace in the morning when a Hathazari-bound Route 3 bus hit them, leaving both of them critically injured.
Locals rescued the victims and rushed them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where the attending doctor declared Arun Das dead.
Azizul Haq Gypsy, who was in a critical condition, was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Royal Hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Md Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bayezid Bostami Police Station, confirmed the incident.
He said following the accident, locals seized the bus, detained the driver, and handed them over to the police. Legal action regarding the incident is currently being processed.
