Two members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were injured in a shooting incident by drug dealers in the capital’s Paltan area late Wednesday night.
The injured officers have been identified as ASI Atik Hasan and Constable Sujon, both from the Lalbagh Division of the DB. The incident occurred around 12:45 am near the Central Police Hospital in Paltan. According to Senior Assistant Commissioner Enayet Kabir Shoeb of the DB Lalbagh Division, the shooting took place when a DB team launched an operation based on a tip-off. “As we tried to intercept a vehicle carrying drug dealers, they suddenly opened fire on us, injuring two of our members,” he said.
The injured officers were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment. DB sources confirmed that the operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Enayet Kabir Shoeb. The team intercepted the suspect’s car opposite the Central Police Hospital, at which point the drug dealers fired at the officers. ASI Atik Hasan was shot in the left side of his abdomen, while Constable Sujon sustained a gunshot wound to his left knee.
Following the incident, police managed to detain three suspects along with a private vehicle used in the drug operation. Sub-Inspector Masud Alam of the DMCH Police Camp confirmed the arrival of the injured officers at the hospital and said they were undergoing treatment.
