Two crude bombs exploded near the Shahbagh intersection of the capital on Thursday night during a public event organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP), in yet another alarming incident targeting the group.
The explosions occurred around 8pm in front of the National Museum, where NCP activists were concluding their scheduled July exhibition and preparing to launch a protest procession.
According to eyewitnesses, unidentified assailants arrived on motorcycles and hurled two crude bombs before fleeing in the direction of Bangladesh Medical University. No injuries, however, were reported.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam confirmed the incident.
He said, “Unknown individuals on motorcycles carried out what appears to be a crude bomb attack and fled the scene. Police and traffic personnel were present at the time. We are working to identify the perpetrators.
This marks the latest in a series of similar attacks targeting the NCP in recent days.
On Wednesday night, a crude bomb exploded at a vehicle used in an NCP procession near the party’s central office in Banglamotor.
Just days earlier, another explosion occurred at the same location, reportedly aimed at NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossain.
An earlier incident was also reported near Rupayan Tower, involving yet another explosion during an NCP gathering.
Though no group has claimed responsibility. The series of explosions has raised concerns about escalating political violence and the safety of opposition activities in Dhaka.
