Two alleged muggers handed over to Savar police after mob thrashing

Two young men were detained and handed over to police by local residents in Savar’s Radio Colony area on Friday after they allegedly attempted to snatch gold jewellery from a woman and flee the scene.

The incident occurred at around 11:00am near the Sahara Filling Station on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, according to Savar Model Police Station.

The detainees were identified as Sabbir Hossain (25), son of Nasir Uddin Mollah of Pranoghati area in Muksudpur thana of Gopalganj, and Murad (20), son of late Sohrab Ali of Natoyabari village in Daulatpur, Manikganj.

According to witnesses, three individuals snatched a gold ring from a woman and attempted to flee the scene. Upon noticing, bystanders chased the assailants, catching two of them. The third suspect, believed to be the ringleader, reportedly escaped with the stolen jewellery.

The two captured men were subjected to a mob aggression before being handed over to Savar Police.

Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam Azad of Savar Model Police Station said, “Locals apprehended the suspects as they were fleeing after snatching a gold ring from a woman. Upon receiving information, police took custody of the suspects brought them to the station.”

He added that legal action is underway against the accused.
