Two advisers and the press secretary to the chief adviser were escorted out of a day-long confinement at Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara, where a plane crash the previous day claimed the lives of dozens, primarily students, amid police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) security.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Education Adviser CR Abrar, and Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam faced angry protests from students during their visit to the college campus to inspect the crash site.
At around 5:52pm, the convoy of the two advisers and the press secretary returned to the college’s building number 5 in Diabari after facing resistance earlier in the day. The trio then took refuge on the second floor of Academic Building 7.
Earlier, at approximately 10:30am, the advisers had arrived at the college. As they entered, they were met with chants of “fake” from the protesting students.
The situation escalated when the students surrounded the advisers. In an attempt to calm the situation, the officials took refuge in a conference room on the ground floor of building number 5.
Following this, 5-7 student representatives were invited for a discussion inside. However, news quickly spread across the college that the advisers were inside.
Within moments, thousands of students gathered in the college compound and began protesting outside building number 5. The situation outside became increasingly tense as the protestors continued to surround the building.
Efforts were made to engage in discussions with the protesting students, but the advisers were met with hostile reactions from the crowd.
By evening, as the students’ protests started to subside, the two advisers and the press secretary were escorted out of the academic building under tight security from the BGB and police.
Their departure marked the end of a highly charged and confrontational day at Milestone School and College.
