BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has expressed suspicion that the interim government has been influenced by a “twisted wind” (“bankim batas”), which he claims reflects an intention to cling to power for an extended period.
He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon while distributing food at an event organized by the Jatiyatabadi Van and Rickshaw Workers’ Party at Nayapaltan in Dhaka.
Rizvi stated, “The interim government is now at a crossroads of democratic reform. The air of Bangladesh, like its fertile soil, is pure and refined. But now, some ‘twisted winds’ seem to be flowing through that air—winds that blow only when the lust for indefinite power arises. We have seen this in the cases of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina. And now, people are questioning whether the same twisted wind is touching the body of the interim government.”
He suggested that such tendencies raise serious concerns among the public about the government’s intentions, particularly its desire to stay in power beyond its mandate.
The event was presided over by the organization’s convener Zahir Rayhan and conducted by Afzal Hossain. Among others, BNP’s Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Executive Committee Member Mahbub Islam, and Dr. Zahidul Kabir also addressed the gathering.
