Tusuka workers goes for abstention

Agitating workers of Tusuka Group continue their second-day work abstention to press home a slew of demands, including payment of wage arrears and stopping of the firing of their fellows without prior notice.

Their demands include 100% wage payment in tune with BGMEA structure, no salary cuts during Eid holidays, arrangements of annual picnic, ending nepotism and immediate halt to the firing of factory workers.

The ready-made garment (RMG) workers of Tusuka Group staged a rally on the factory premises at Konabari. However, local police remained alert outside the facility to fend off any untoward incident.

Earlier on Saturday, they also mounted a demonstration but later joined the work in the production line. Later, the authorities placed a notice on the main gate “accepting demands of the workers.”

A Tusuka director shared with the media that it is not clear why workers are still agitating as the plant authorities have already conceded to their demands.

“We follow all labour laws,” he claimed, citing: “External conspirators are involved with this movement. The workers are not allowing Tusuka officers to enter the factory campus.”

Meanwhile, Konabari police said, “They are closely monitoring the situation as Tusuka workers are holding rallies leaving aside their work.”

According to business insiders, Tusuka Group is the parent company and owner of NOVOAIR, a leading regional airliner operating across Bangladesh and India.
