Law enforcement agencies have arrested Barrister Turin Afroz, former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, in connection with a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination movement.

The arrest was made during a police raid in Uttara, Dhaka, on Monday night.

According to police sources, the operation took place after 10pm at a residence on Road 11 in Sector 3 of Uttara. Barrister Afroz was taken into custody.

Md Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station, told reporters that Barrister Turin is facing multiple cases, including in Nilphamari and Uttara West Police Station, all related to the ongoing investigation into the anti-discrimination movement.

Barrister Tureen Afroz was appointed as a prosecutor for the International Crimes Tribunal in February 2013.

During her tenure, she played a key role in prosecuting high-profile war crimes cases, including those against Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and Ghulam Azam.

However, her career faced controversy in 2018 when allegations surfaced regarding a secret meeting with an accused in a crimes against humanity case. Following an internal inquiry, she was relieved of her duties in November 2019.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be disclosed in due course.
