US Democratic lawmakers have condemned President Donald Trump for authorising an attack on Iran without Congressional approval, with some calling the move a “serious violation” of the constitution.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described the strike as an “impeachable offense,” warning that Trump had recklessly risked launching a war that could entrap generations to come.
In a post on social media platform X, Ocasio-Cortez wrote, “He impulsively put us on the brink of a conflict that could haunt us for generations.”
Her Democratic colleague Rashida Tlaib echoed those concerns, labeling the strike a “blatant breach of the US Constitution” and urging Congress to intervene immediately.
“We have seen where decades of wars in the Middle East take us — all built on lies about so-called weapons of mass destruction,” Tlaib said.
Thomas Massie, representative for Kentucky’s 4th congressional district labelled the attack “unconstitutional.”
Congressman Jim McGovern also spoke out, calling the situation “insane.” “Trump bombed Iran without Congressional approval, dragging us illegally into another Middle East war. Have we learned nothing from our past?” McGovern said.
