A court has barred former Environment, Forest and Climate Change minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury, along with his wife Rehana Chowdhury and their four children from leaving the country.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain issued the order on Sunday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Akhtarul Islam confirmed the development.
The ACC application stated that investigations are ongoing against Saber Hossain Chowdhury for allegedly amassing substantial movable and immovable properties through economic crimes using political influence.
Investigators have reportedly discovered undisclosed assets in Saber’s and his family members’ names across various locations in Bangladesh (including areas outside Dhaka) and overseas in Canada, the UK, the US, and other countries.
The ACC expressed concerns that the accused and his family might flee abroad or transfer assets, potentially obstructing the investigation. The commission emphasised that the travel restrictions were necessary to ensure proper investigation of the allegations.
