A court has imposed travel restrictions on former Gazipur-3 constituency MP Muhammad Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, his wife Nigar Sultana Jhumu, and his brother Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain due to corruption allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Sunday (June 1).

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Assistant Director of ACC (Anti-Corruption Commission) Saidul Islam, filed a petition seeking the travel ban. The court subsequently approved the petition.

ACC Public Relations Officer Mohammad Akhtarul Islam confirmed the information.

The petition stated that an investigation is ongoing against Iqbal Hossain for allegedly amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.

As part of the investigation, notices were issued to them to submit their statements. However, they failed to appear before the authorities on the scheduled date and time.

The petition further mentioned that credible sources during the investigation indicated the accused might attempt to flee the country. Therefore, restricting their foreign travel was deemed necessary for a proper investigation.
