A Dhaka court on Thursday imposed a travel ban on two former vice-chancellors of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR), Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah and AKM Nur-un-Nabi, in addition to three others in a corruption case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order following a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Minhaj Bin Islam.
Earlier, the anti-graft watchdog filed the case against them on charges of massive irregularities and corruption in a special development project of the university.
Meanwhile, Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah has been arrested in the case.
Three others facing the ban to leave the country are former executive engineer and member secretary of BRUR Tender Evaluation Committee Md Jahangir Alam, contractor Md A Salam Bacchu, and MM Habibur Rahman.
According to the case statement, they allegedly deposited the security money deducted from the contractor’s running bill as FDR (Fixed Deposit Receipt) in the bank and later approved a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to use the FDR as a loan guarantee for the contractor, thereby embezzling Tk 4crore from the government-provided funds of the university.
