A train on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route was disrupted for almost four hours after one of its carriages detached midway.

The “Cox’s Bazar Express,” which was heading towards Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar, had its carriage disconnected after crossing the Gomdondi Railway Station in Boalkhali, Chattogram, at around 3:15 pm on Saturday. The incident occurred in the outer signal area after the train’s guard broke the hook of the carriage, causing it to detach. The main train continued its journey towards Dhaka, leaving the disconnected carriage behind.

No casualties were reported in the incident. However, due to the disruption, several trains, including the “Probal Express” from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar, were unable to depart on time. The Chattogram-cox’s Bazar route resumed train services at 7:00 pm after the carriage was removed.

Anwarul Haque, the station master at Gomdondi Railway Station, confirmed that the railway control room was notified immediately after the carriage detached. An engine was sent promptly, and the carriage was removed, allowing the train services to resume.

Rafiqul Islam, the point man at the station, added that the “Cox’s Bazar Express” was passing through Gomdondi Station when the hook between two carriages broke, causing the detachment. The detached carriage stopped a short distance away, with no injuries reported.

Due to this incident, train operations on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar line were halted for nearly four hours. The Probal Express, scheduled to depart from Chattogram station at 3:10 pm for Cox’s Bazar, and another train meant for transporting furnace oil to Dohazari’s power plant, were delayed because of the disruption. Additionally, regular trains on the Chattogram-Dohazari route were also unable to depart as planned.
