Ilia Topuria delivered a stunning first-round knockout against Charles Oliveira to capture the vacant UFC lightweight title in the main event of UFC 317 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, adding a second belt to his growing legacy.
The 28-year-old Georgian-Spanish fighter, who moved up from featherweight, extended his perfect professional record to 17-0 with a thunderous straight right hand followed by a left hook that left Oliveira, 35, unconscious at 2:27 of the opening round. Referee Marc Goddard stepped in immediately to halt the contest as Topuria celebrated a historic win.
Oliveira had started strongly, using his range and kicks to the body before pushing Topuria against the fence. The pair grappled to the ground, with Oliveira threatening a leg lock, but Topuria remained composed, escaped danger, and returned to his feet. Moments later, he connected cleanly to end the fight in emphatic fashion.
“I’ll finish you, little man,” Topuria shouted after a tense post-fight face-off with Paddy Pimblett, who entered the cage following the win. The two had to be separated by security after a brief shove.
Topuria now holds both the lightweight and featherweight titles, having previously knocked out Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski. He hinted at a future showdown with Pimblett but made it clear he’s ready for anyone: “Whoever is ready for me, I’m here.”
Co-Main Event: Pantoja Submits Kara-France to Retain Flyweight Title
