The Ministry of Youth and Sports has proposed a total budget of Tk 2,423 crore for the fiscal year 2025–26, marking a significant increase of Tk 842.21 crore from the revised budget of the previous year. Of the proposed amount, Tk 1,440.37 crore has been allocated for development expenditure, while Tk 982.63 crore is earmarked for operational costs.
In comparison, the revised budget for FY 2024–25 stood at Tk 1,580.78 crore, with Tk 627.95 crore allocated for development and Tk 952.83 crore for operational expenses.
A number of key projects are set to be implemented under the proposed budget. These include the second phase of mini-stadium construction at the upazila level, further development of the Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Stadium in Narail and the table tennis facility, as well as construction of indoor and volleyball stadiums.
Additional projects involve the modernisation of training facilities and physical infrastructure at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), a third-phase initiative for integrated resource management aimed at poverty alleviation, and the second phase of the “Technology Empowerment Centre on Wheels for Underprivileged Rural Young People of Bangladesh” project.
Feasibility studies for new initiatives under the Department of Youth Development (DoYD) are also included, alongside capacity-building efforts to deliver IT training in 64 districts, and a project to train aspiring freelancers in 48 districts to boost youth employment.
The ministry also plans to expand and modernise training facilities at the Central Human Resource Development Centre in Savar, Dhaka, and implement projects such as “Leaving No One Behind: Improving Skills and Economic Opportunities for Women and Youth in Cox’s Bazar” and “Economic Acceleration and Resilience for NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).” Life-skills education at youth training centres under the National Youth Platform is another focus area.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports typically allocates funds across several key areas each year. These include initiatives for youth self-employment, encouraging voluntary participation in development work, awarding outstanding youths, providing grants to youth organisations, conducting research and surveys on youth activities, and empowering youth through nation-building efforts.
Other ongoing priorities include youth training and welfare activities aimed at creating a skilled workforce and integrating them into the national development agenda. The ministry also supports national and international sports competitions, provides national sports awards, facilitates talent identification in sports, develops rural sporting environments, and supports both sports organisations and underprivileged athletes. Infrastructure development, maintenance, and renovation of sports facilities remain a consistent focus.
The significant boost in the proposed budget reflects the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development as part of its broader national growth strategy.
