Former Bashundhara Kings head coach Valeriu Tita has filed an official complaint with FIFA against the Bangladesh Premier League giants over unpaid salaries, bonuses and flight expenses.
The Romanian, who took charge of the five-time league champions in July last year following the departure of long-serving Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon, was relieved of his duties earlier this year. During his brief tenure, Tita led the Kings to triumphs in both the Bangladesh Challenge Cup and the Federation Cup.
Despite that silverware, the 59-year-old oversaw a disappointing league campaign, with the team finishing third. The decline followed the exit of several high-profile foreign players, reportedly due to financial constraints in the aftermath of the political changeover in Bangladesh in August 2025.
The Kings’ poor form extended to the continental stage, where they finished bottom of their AFC Challenge League group without collecting a single point.
Tita, who took up a new role with Omani club Al-Seeb in June, confirmed to The Daily Star this week that he has lodged a complaint with FIFA.
“The complaint is about three months’ salaries, bonuses and flight tickets that I paid by myself,” he said. Tita also revealed that his former assistant, Khalil Charkoun, has filed a similar claim against the club.
The veteran coach voiced his frustration at the club’s current situation, especially given the reported investment ahead of the new season. Brazilian coach Sergio Farias has recently been appointed, with several new foreign and domestic players also recruited.
“The conditions that they had before we came there were top and easy to even win the AFC Cup,” Tita remarked. “But when we arrived there were only problems: no players, no money, no bonus, nothing. And with all of this, we still won two trophies.”
“Yet they are now recruiting new players and new staff. Everything is strange,” he added.
Bashundhara Kings are currently in preparation for their crucial AFC Challenge League playoff against Syrian side Al-Karamah SC, set to take place on August 12 in Doha.
