Thunderstorms likely in Dhaka, 17 other regions by Midday

The Met office has forecast thunderstorms in Dhaka and 17 other regions across the country by Thursday afternoon.

In a six-hour weather forecast issued early Thursday for Dhaka and surrounding areas, the Met Office warned of temporary gusty or squally winds along with rain or thundershowers.

According to the forecast valid from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm, the affected regions include: Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet.

Winds from the south to southeast are expected to blow at speeds of 45 to 60 km/h. River ports in these regions have been instructed to hoist cautionary signal number 1.

Meanwhile, the Met Office also issued a broader five-day forecast starting Wednesday night, predicting continued rainfall across the country. During this period, some areas may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall, it said.
