Three people, including two engineers, were killed when the railing of a six-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Circuit Housepara area of Jashore city on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as engineer Mizanur Rahman, 35, from Kushtia; engineer Azizul Islam hailed from Dinajpur; and a construction worker named Nuru, 45, from Chapainawabganj.

Witnesses said the incident occurred around 11:30am at a construction site operated by a local real estate developer named Building for Future Limited Company when the railing of the sixth floor collapsed suddenly, causing the victims to fall and sustained critical injuries.

Locals and workers rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and took them to Jashore General Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Fire service personnel and police from Jashore Kotwali Police Station also responded promptly.

Meanwhile, residents alleged that the construction was being carried out without adequate safety measures, despite repeated warnings.

They also claimed that the site posed risks not only to the workers but also to the students and pedestrians from nearby schools and colleges.

There were no visible safety precautions in place, even though this was a multi-storeyed structure, a local resident told the media added that they raised concerns with the developers several times, but nothing changed.

Abul Hasnat Khan, officer-in-charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the incident and said authorities are investigating the incident. If negligence is found, legal action will be taken, he stated.
