Police have arrested three persons from the city in connection with the murder of DU student, Shahriar Alam Shammo, who was stabbed to death late Tuesday night near the Suhrawardy Udyan area.
The arrestees were identified as Tamim Hawlader, 30, Samrat Mallic, 28, and Palash Sarder, 30. They were held from city’s Razabazar and Green Road area, said Mohammad Khalid Mansur, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Police Masud Alam said that further investigation into the matter is going on.
Shammo, 25, was the literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
After sustaining sharp weapon injury to this right leg, he was brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital by his classmates as he was bleeding continuously around midnight, according to police Inspector Muhammad Faruk.
The DMCH doctors pronounced him dead.
Hailing from Ullapara upazila, Sirajganj, he was a resident of room 222 of Sir AF Rahman Hall. Shammo was a student of the 2018–19 academic session of IER.
