OTT platform Chorki’s official, Shahriar Sagar, has filed a general diary (GD) with Tejgaon Police Station in Dhaka, alleging ‘immoral pressure, threats and propaganda’ by filmmaker Shouvo Rahman Rony.

According to a copy of the GD obtained by the Times of Bangladesh, Shouvo has accused of using the false identities of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Party (NCP) to exert ‘immoral pressure, threats and propaganda’ in an attempt to secure work at Chorki. The GD claims he also ‘created pressure by making defamatory posts’ on Facebook against Chorki CEO, Redoan Rony.

This follows Shouvo’s recent memorandum to the Meherpur District Commissioner in which he accused Redoan Rony of professional harassment, intimidation and obstructing his work through a ‘media syndicate’.

Shouvo, who says he once worked as Redoan’s assistant, alleged he had been excluded from projects at Chorki.

Amid heated debate in the film industry, Chorki — and indirectly Redoan Rony — has now made counter-allegations against Shouvo.

The GD, filed on Tuesday, states: “On April 17, 2024, Shouvo came to Chorki’s Karwan Bazar office without any prior appointment and demanded work as a producer ‘without proof of qualification’. His submitted story was later rejected for lacking quality. Since then, he has been creating pressure by making defamatory posts on social media against both myself and Chorki CEO, Redoan Rony.”

It further alleges that: “After the change of government on August 5, 2024, Shouvo began issuing fresh threats. He threatened to harm others by making calls in the name of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and by spreading misleading videos and posts on YouTube and Facebook.”

The complaint also claims that Shouvo attempted to pressure production companies linked to Chorki, including Alpha Eye Entertainment Limited, and harassed Alpha Eye official Kashfi Ahsan Brishti “in various ways”.

Additional allegations include that Shouvo went to Redoan’s family home in Pabna, attempting to secure “illegal and immoral benefits” and threatening “defamation and propaganda” if his demands were not met.

The GD states that despite a meeting in July at Chorki’s office — attended by Shouvo’s father and a friend — he refused to withdraw his demands, behaved in an intoxicated manner and threatened suicide.

According to the GD, his father later recommended taking legal action.

The document concludes: “As a result of these activities, the business, family and social reputation of Shahriar Sagar, Redoan Rony and Chorki has been tarnished.”

The Times of Bangladesh was the first to break this news.
