Four teenagers have been arrested in connection with a burglary that saw actor Brad Pitt’s home ransacked, according to Los Angeles police statements to BBC.

Authorities say the suspects are allegedly responsible for a string of “celebrity burglaries” targeting the homes of actors and professional athletes. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed the group consists of two 18-year-olds, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, all said to be members of a street gang. Property stolen in the burglaries was recovered during searches of their homes.

Police have not confirmed all the other victims, but celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, LA Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and former LAFC striker Olivier Giroud have reported break-ins this year.

The investigation began in late June after Pitt’s residence was targeted by a trio of masked intruders. McDonnell said the suspects scaled a perimeter fence surrounding the Los Feliz property, smashed a window to gain entry, and took items before fleeing.

While authorities did not explicitly name Pitt, the address matches a property he purchased in 2023. The large three-bedroom home lies just outside Griffith Park, near the iconic Hollywood Sign, and is shielded by fencing and greenery. Pitt was not at home during the incident, as he was promoting his new film, ‘F1’.

McDonnell said the suspects were part of a crew that “were burglarising various high-profile residents throughout the city”, including the homes of actors and professional athletes. Last week, authorities tracked and arrested the four on burglary charges. Police have not disclosed the full list of items recovered.

The chief added that burglars are becoming increasingly sophisticated, planting surveillance cameras in nearby flowerbeds or across the street to monitor victims’ routines. Some have also used Wi-Fi jammers to disable home security systems and cameras that could alert residents or police.
