A video showing a teenager firing a blank shot while raising a pistol in Gazipur’s Sreepur has gone viral on social media. The footage shows a young man (wearing a shirt) standing on an under-construction building, aiming a pistol toward the sky and firing.
The video has recently spread across social platforms, sparking widespread discussion and criticism. Locals have demanded that the accused be brought to justice as soon as possible.
According to local sources, the accused youth is identified as Tehim Matbor, son of Jamal Uddin Jamal, a medicine vendor from Dakshin Dhanua village under Gazipur Union of the upazila. Tehim is reportedly the leader of a local teenage gang. Under his command, a group of about 15 to 20 members operates in the area with apparent impunity. He has been accused of various crimes including robbery, intimidation, group assaults, extortion, and physical violence.
Following the circulation of the video, Tehim has reportedly gone into hiding.
Gazi Ismail, a member of Ward 5 of the local Union Parishad, told reporters, “Tehim is involved in various criminal activities in the area. He doesn’t care about anyone. I have personally seen the video of him firing the gun. It is urgent to arrest him in order to maintain law and order.”
Local resident Kalim Uddin said, “A couple of days ago, I lodged a complaint with his family regarding a certain issue. In retaliation, Tehim came with his gang to attack me. He threatened to shoot me in the chest and kidnap my daughter. Since then, we’ve been living in fear.”
Another neighbor said, “Tehim Matbor possesses a firearm. He is creating terror in the area by using the names of local political leaders. He has previously shared videos of himself displaying guns on his Facebook account. Due to fear, no one dared to file complaints against him. But now, as this latest video has gone widely viral, more people have started to speak out. Law enforcement must take a strong stance against him.”
Mohammad Abdul Bariq, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur model police station, said, “As soon as we became aware of the matter, multiple police teams began working on it. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused. Legal action will be taken accordingly.”
